Our religious education program uses materials and resources that implement the Archdiocesan Religious Curriculum Guide promulgated in August 2013 by his Excellency, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, J.C.D., for use in the Archdiocese of the Military Services, USA (AMS): "The purpose of this guide is to provide a standard instrument for ensuring that the faith is taught in a complete, systemic and consistent way in the Catholic faith communities in the Archdiocese." Plesae indicate on the CRE enrollment form if you would like to participate in the AMS Family Faith Assessment.
Curriculum: Pflaum Gospel Weeklies for the following grades:
2-4: Good News; First Communion (2nd Grade) will also use ‘Welcome Children!: A Child’s Mass Book’ and ‘First Eucharist: Together in Jesus Program’
7-8: Vision; Confirmation class (8th Grade) also uses ‘YOUCAT’ and ‘Confirmation for Teens’ from Liguori Publications
Catechist qualifications: complete JBM-HH background investigation (Bldg 59); register in the Army Volunteer Program; complete Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) catechist requirements for certification; complete AMS requirements for child and youth protection training; and has received the Sacraments of Initiation.
Unique aspects of the JBM-HH CRE program: participation by families and individuals from all the military services, active duty and retired, as well as civilians; Confirmation candidates participate in a service project at Anna Cooper House and a retreat at St Anslem's Abbey; JBM-HH Confirmation candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in a joint ceremony with candidates from other military installations at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, presided by AMS Archbishop Timothy Brogilio; the JBM-HH CRE program ends in May with a mystagogia walk from Memorial Chapel to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to observe the changing of the guard.
